About

The literal meaning of an underdog comes from a man who stood beneath a saw and had wood dust and chips fell on him. Today the term underdog is given to those who struggle against great odds…and let’s face it, we love to cheer for them. From Babe Ruth to Gandhi, from Frodo to Rocky, we want these longshots to win. We want to see that black horse cross the finish line first. Why, though? What about these characters do we love? Where can they be found in our culture? Our way of life? History? Lacey’s and Margret’s class of 2009 are out on a mission to find out. In an attempt to understand the mentality of the watchers, topdogs, and underdogs we studied and created these projects for you to enjoy. We interviewed with experts in our fields, researched at the San Diego Public Library; we were even forced to write a 6-page research essay (I can still remember the pain and panic in the room)! We examined innovative media pieces to get ideas. We also were given the kind permission from the MCASD to host our gallery here. This is the final product of all that trouble. It is also the last project and exhibition that we will do in High School. We hope you will enjoy it and please let us know if you have any questions and leave comments to help the future students know how to make theirs better. So the last project of our senior year will draw to a close with this night. Thank you for your time.
